NICAS Pro Connects South Wales – A Powerful Day of Learning, Inclusion and Connection

On Thursday 5th June, NICAS Pro Connects landed in South Wales for an inspiring day of collaboration, practical training, and inclusive learning at Dynamic Rock in Swansea. The latest in our regional series, this event brought together climbing wall managers, coaches, and NICAS partners from across the region to strengthen delivery and explore how we can collectively build a more inclusive indoor climbing community.

A huge thank you to our brilliant hosts at Dynamic Rock for creating such a welcoming and supportive space for the day’s activities.

A major highlight of the event was the Disability Inclusion Training workshop, delivered by Sarah Jones from Access Sport. This in-depth, practical session covered:
- The social model of disability in a climbing context
- Inclusive communication and session planning
- Practical ways to adapt sessions for disabled and neurodivergent climbers
- Understanding and overcoming barriers to participation
- Group discussion and real-life examples to build knowledge and confidence
This workshop is also the first required step for any climbing wall seeking NICAS Ascend accreditation, forming the foundation for delivering a high-quality, inclusive climbing offer. We’re incredibly grateful to Sarah and Access Sport for leading such an impactful session.

We were also delighted to be joined by Petzl, who delivered a hands-on belay workshop with both NICAS Pro Connects participants and Dynamic Rock customers. Their session highlighted practical belaying tips and showcased the latest Petzl equipment in action — a brilliant addition to the day’s programme.
Our heartfelt thanks go to our event sponsors: Lime Street Active Leisure Insurance, Kong Climbing and Petzl.

Your support enables us to deliver these regional events and connect the NICAS community in meaningful, practical ways.
Finally, thank you to all the walls and attendees who contributed to today’s event. Your passion, questions, and ideas are what drive the NICAS network forward — and we’re proud to be on this journey with you.

Next up: Bristol!
We’re heading to the South West for NICAS Pro Connects Bristol on 10th July 2025, so anyone in the area, we’ll see you there!
